How to Draw a Boy’s Face

In each of these tutorials, we provide an approximate sequence of steps. However, you can change the facial features at each stage as you wish.

How to draw a boy’s face step by step

Step 1: Sketch the face outline

Draw a rough outline of the face. Do not try to make the boy’s face sketch too precise at this stage. Place it in the center of the paper if you are drawing a portrait.

Step 2: Mark the facial guides

Use short, simple lines to mark the placement of the facial features. The eyes will be positioned along the horizontal line. Use the vertical line to mark the placement of the hairstyle, nose, and mouth.

Step 3: Outline the boy’s eyes

Draw the approximate outlines of the eyes. Choose any eye shape you like, but keep the guidelines from the previous step in mind.

Step 4: Add the eyelid folds

Add small skin folds above the eyes. These areas are formed mainly by straight lines that create subtle corners.

Now draw the pupils. Their placement strongly affects the direction of the gaze and the overall expression of the face.

Step 6: Shape the boy’s eyebrows

Draw the eyebrows in any shape you prefer. Their width usually does not exceed the width of the eyes, although you can adjust their size and shape as needed.

Step 7: Draw the boy’s nose

Begin drawing the nose by sketching its lower part using the guides from the beginning of the tutorial. Then connect it to the lower edge of the eyebrow.

Step 8: Outline the boy’s mouth

Now begin drawing the mouth. Here, the closed lips are formed by smooth lines. The lower lip is slightly larger than the upper lip, but you can choose any lip shape.

Step 9: Add the boy’s ears

Continue by drawing the ears. Their upper edges usually align with the eyebrows, while their lower edges align with the tip of the nose. These guidelines change when the head is tilted.

Step 10: Draw the hairstyle

If you are drawing a bald character, you can skip this step. To create natural-looking hair, use smooth lines that flow from the roots toward the tips.

Step 11: Refine the facial outlines

Erase all unnecessary guidelines from the boy’s face drawing. To create a stronger sense of volume, make the details closer to the viewer slightly darker than those farther away.

Step 12: Add texture and shadows

Add more light lines in the direction of hair growth to create a natural hair texture. You can also include additional facial details, such as skin folds or moles. Do not forget to draw shadows to make the boy’s face drawing look more complete and realistic.

Step 13: Complete the boy’s face drawing

This step is no less important than the previous ones. Bring the entire drawing to its final appearance. Find any mistakes or inaccuracies, as well as any parts of the drawing that stand out from the overall image. Check the symmetry and the tonal relationships.
