How to Draw Flash

There are many truly legendary and iconic characters in the DC Universe that are always interesting to draw. In this tutorial, you will learn how to draw Flash, capturing the iconic features of the Fastest Man Alive in the style of classic comic books.
Flash is the name of several fictional comic book superheroes published by DC Comics. This tutorial will help you draw nearly any version of this superhero.
How to draw Flash step by step
Step 1: Sketch Flash’s basic pose
Unlike the poses used when drawing Robin, Flash will be shown in a fairly complex, dynamic pose. Despite this, the basic drawing principles remain the same. First, sketch the head as an oval. Next, outline the spine, rib cage, and pelvis.

Step 2: Build Flash’s body shapes
Now add volume to Flash’s body. On the head, mark the facial guidelines so they intersect near the bridge of the nose. Next, sketch the torso, narrowing it at the waist. Outline the arms and legs with simple geometric shapes, such as circles and elongated cylinders.

Step 3: Draw the facial features
The main outlines of the superhero are ready, so begin adding details. Using the horizontal guideline from the previous step, draw Flash’s eyes. Along the vertical guideline, outline the nose and mouth, placing the mouth midway between the tip of the nose and the chin.

Step 4: Outline Flash’s masked head
Continue refining the head of one of the fastest comic book superheroes. Outline the shape of Flash’s head, then draw the openings for the eyes and mouth. Do not forget to add the wings on the sides of the mask.

Step 5: Refine the torso details
Carefully refine the lines of Flash’s torso, pectoral muscles, and abdominals. In the center of the chest, draw the Flash logo and add the lightning-shaped belt.

Step 6: Shape the arms and gloves
Draw Flash’s rounded deltoid muscles. Continue their contours into the biceps and triceps, then outline the forearms, narrowing them toward the wrists. Refine the lightning-shaped edges of the gloves.

Step 7: Refine the legs and boots
Move to the lower part of Flash’s body and refine the outlines of his powerful legs. Draw the muscles and knees, then erase the unnecessary guidelines. Add the wings to the boots and outline the soles.

Step 8: Add comic-style shadows
Erase the remaining unnecessary lines and add shadows to complete the Flash drawing. To create classic comic book shadows, use clear, dark strokes. First, draw the outlines of the shadows, then fill them with a solid black color and add halftones using hatching.

Now that you have finished drawing Flash, you can practice other famous superheroes using our step-by-step tutorials.
You can continue developing your skills by drawing Green Lantern. For another character shown in motion, try drawing Spider-Man. You can also practice a heavier and more powerful superhero build by drawing Superman.
