How to draw Bulbasaur from Pokemon

Pokémon is full of characters with unique designs. In this tutorial on how to draw Bulbasaur, we’ll show you how to illustrate this frog-like Pokémon in our classic pencil style with light hatching.

How to draw Bulbasaur step by step

Step 1: Sketch Bulbasaur’s basic shapes

First, draw the outlines of the head, body, and legs. The head is closer to us than the rest of the body, so it looks larger. The legs are rounded like the head and body, but they are much smaller.

Step 2: Add the Pokémon’s large bulb

Now draw the outline of the large bulb on Bulbasaur’s back. This shape resembles a dumpling or khinkali. It should be about the size of a Pokémon’s torso.

Step 3: Draw the face and ears

Draw Bulbasaur’s eyes, mouth, and ears. The eyes have pointed shapes, but they should not look exactly the same from this angle. The ears are also pointed, though they are longer and flatter.

Step 4: Add Bulbasaur’s facial details

Now add the pupils, teeth, and nostrils. Make sure both pupils point in the same direction. Their narrow shape is similar to the eyes seen when drawing a dragon.

Draw three small claws on each foot with short curved lines. Then add a few wavy lines across the bulb to show its large sections. Let the lines follow the curve of the bulb so it feels round instead of flat.
