How to Draw a Sports Car

Finished sports car drawing with angular body lines and detailed wheels.

We often show how to draw cars on Drawingforall.net, including rare and powerful sports cars. In this tutorial, we will show you how to draw a sports car and explain the most important points that you can apply when drawing almost any other car of this class.

Previously, we showed you how to draw a Ferrari and draw a Bugatti. If you look closely at these tutorials, you will see that they follow the same basic principles, but with the characteristic details and forms of each particular car.

How to draw a sports car step by step

Step 1: Sketch the car body shape

Since we are drawing a sports car using the appearance of a Lamborghini, we need to use many straight lines and sharp corners. With the help of light lines, sketch the basic shape of the sports car body. First, outline the low front part, then draw the sloping hood, windshield, and roof. Continue these lines toward the rear.

Step 2: Add the basic car details

Let’s add the most basic details to the sports car drawing. At the front, sketch the long, angular headlights of the sports car. Slightly below, indicate the large openings in the front bumper with light lines. At the bottom of the sports car, sketch the wheels inside the arches and add the rear-view mirrors on the sides.

Step 3: Draw the angular headlights

The main outlines of the sports car are ready, and now we will work with the details. Using straight, dark, and clear lines, draw the headlights. Note that since we are drawing a Lamborghini-style sports car, the headlights should be very sharp and angular. Carefully trace their upper and lower edges.

Step 4: Draw the front bumper

Move down a little and draw the front bumper with dark and clear lines. Draw the large air intakes on the left and right sides. Try to give them an angular shape similar to the headlights. Then draw the long central opening and the lower edge of the bumper.

Step 5: Refine the sports car’s hood

Move a little higher and trace the hood lines. Draw the side edges of the hood extending from the headlights toward the windshield, and add a couple of light lines on its surface. In the same step, depict the logo of the sports car in the center of the hood. As already mentioned, the artists of Drawingforall.net use the appearance of a Lamborghini, but if you draw, for example, a Porsche, then obviously you will need to draw another logo.

Step 6: Draw the roof and windshield

Move higher and draw the roof and windshield with clearer lines. Since this is a sports car, its roof should be very low and sloping. First, trace the upper edge of the windshield, then draw the roof line continuing toward the rear of the body. Outline the side edges of the windshield as well. Try to give it a wide and low shape.

Step 7: Draw the sports car’s side windows

Draw the side windows and rear-view mirrors. Another distinguishing feature of sports cars is their very narrow side windows. Separate the windows with the pillars and draw the rear side window following the slope of the roof. Then refine the near rear-view mirror and indicate the far mirror on the opposite side.

Step 8: Detail the car’s side body

Continue drawing the side surface of the sports car. Draw the door lines and the small handle below the side window. In the lower part, trace the side skirt running between the front and rear wheels. Then refine the rear part of the body and draw the large angular air intake in front of the rear wheel.

Step 9: Draw the wheels and arches

Now comes a fairly difficult part: drawing the wheels and wheel arches. Carefully trace the arches with smooth lines, then draw the outer contours of the tires inside them. Because the car is drawn in perspective, the wheels appear as slightly flattened oval shapes. Note that sports cars usually have very large and wide wheels.

Step 10: Draw the sports car’s wheel rims

First, mark the centers of both wheels, then draw the spokes extending from the hubs toward the outer edges of the rims. We chose a thin multi-spoke rims, but of course you can choose your own. You can also add color or shadows to give the sports car drawing a bit more realism.

That’s all. As we said, we drew a sports car using a Lamborghini Huracan as an example, but with this drawing tutorial you can depict a sports car of another brand because the basic principles of drawing cars are largely the same.

You can also practice with our supercar drawing tutorial or try drawing a Lamborghini Huracan with more characteristic details.
