How to Draw a Dog Bed Step by Step

Step 1: Sketch the basic shape of the bed

First, sketch the rough outline of the dog bed. Do not try to make the lines perfectly straight. The most important task is to position the sketch correctly on the paper and establish the basic shape. Keep all the corners rounded, and use very light strokes so you can easily adjust or erase them later.

Step 2: Sketch the inner and outer edges

Draw the inner and outer edges of the dog bed. Begin with the inner section, which resembles a parallelogram without a bottom edge. Then add the outer contours. Avoid sharp corners and abrupt bends, keeping all the lines smooth. Pay attention to the spacing between the contours and use the sketch from the previous step as a guide.

Step 3: Draw the front section of the dog bed

Divide the front of the dog bed into two uneven sections. As you can see, the upper part is much thinner than the lower one. The edge of the front panel blends smoothly into the side edge. From this angle, it resembles the front bumper of a car. Try to complete this step without using any drawing tools.

Step 4: Trace and darken the lower contour

Draw the bottom edge of the dog bed. It appears as one long, flowing line connecting the farthest visible sections of the bed. Short vertical guidelines can help you position it correctly. Compare your drawing carefully and try to complete this step without using a ruler.

Step 5: Draw simple shading on the dog bed

To make the dog bed look three-dimensional, add light shadows. Before shading, determine the direction of the light source. The shadows on the opposite side should be the darkest. Use two layers of hatching for the darkest areas, while lighter areas can be shaded with a single layer. If you are drawing a leather dog bed, you can also add small highlights.
