In this very simple, but realistic guide, our team will show you how to draw a dog bed – an interior detail familiar to all dog owners.

In the case of our lesson on how to draw a dog bed, it is important to note that there are many different types of beds and places where a dog can rest, but we chose the most conventional one.

It is a soft bed with three sides and a comfortable base for lying down. In the final stages of this lesson, we will also show how and where to add shadows to make the drawing of the dog bed appear more three-dimensional.

This very simple tutorial is also perfect for practicing drawing basic geometric shapes and smooth, flowing lines. You can also strengthen your shading skills.

How to draw a dog bed step by step

Step 1: Sketch the basic shape of the bed

First sketch the rough outlines of the bed. Do not try to draw perfectly straight lines. The most important thing is to choose the correct position of the sketch on the sheet of paper and outline the basic guidelines. Note that all corners are rounded. Try to use the lightest possible strokes so that you can easily adjust or erase them later.

Step 2: Sketch the inner and outer edges

Draw the front and back parts of the dog bed. First depict the inner section, which looks like a parallelogram without a bottom edge. After that, add the outer lines. Avoid sharp corners and abrupt bends. As you can see, all the lines are smooth. Pay attention to the distance between the lines and use the sketch from the previous step as a guide.

Step 3: Draw the front section of the dog bed

Divide the front of the dog bed into two uneven sections. As you can see, the upper part is significantly thinner than the lower part. The border of the front edge of the bed merges with the side border. From this angle, it looks a bit like the front bumper of a car. It would be ideal if you could draw this step without using any auxiliary tools.

Step 4: Trace and darken the lower contour

Draw the bottom edge of the dog bed. It appears as one long, flowing line that connects the most distant sections of this pet accessory. Short vertical lines can serve as a useful guide. Look closely at the drawing and the fine parallel lines. Try to complete this step without using a ruler.

Step 5: Draw simple shading on the dog bed

To make the object look dimensional, draw light shadows on the dog bed. Before adding them, determine the direction of the light source. The shadows on the opposite side should be the most intense. For darker shadows, use two layers of hatching. In other areas, light single-layer shading works well. If you are drawing a leather bed, you can also add small highlights.

Step 6: Refine and complete the dog bed

Now check the proportions of your entire dog bed drawing and correct any mistakes that may have appeared during the process. If any unnecessary construction lines or incorrect strokes are still visible, remove them. At this stage, you can also refine the shadows and add more contrast if needed.

Refine and complete the dog bed

It is always important to remember the variability of any object you draw, and a dog bed is no exception. You can try adding many different elements or depicting it from other viewing angles to make the sketch more complex.

For example, you could draw a dog lying in the bed or add other elements of your choice. If you want to develop a more complex composition, you could draw a human bed next to the dog bed, creating an interesting interior scene.

Try to illustrate a more complex composition made up of the dog bed and additional elements. For example, besides the bed and the dog, you could draw a dog toy in the foreground.

You can create different shapes or add other inscriptions to give your dog bed a more individual design. Do not forget that your feedback is the best reward for our work. We look forward to your comments here or on our social networks.
