How to Draw Snoop Dogg

We continue our drawing guides about famous people from the world of hip-hop. Here we will show you how to draw Snoop Dogg.
This tutorial will follow the principles of drawing a human and will also relay on the classical basics of drawing.
We will show you how to construct the musician’s figure and add the characteristic features that will allow the viewer to recognize Snoop Dogg.
How to draw Snoop Dogg step by step
Step 1: Sketch Snoop Dogg’s figure
Snoop Dogg is standing in a static pose in our tutorial, so it will be easy for us to draw his skeleton (we call it a “stickman”). Thus, sketch out the head in the form of an oval, then draw the line of the spine and mark the chest and pelvis along it. After that, sketch out the arms and legs. Keep the rapper’s figure tall and slender, with relatively narrow masses of the chest and pelvis. Recall that the height of an average adult man is approximately equal to 7–8 head lengths.

Step 2: Add volume to Snoop’s figure
First, sketch out two intersecting lines for Snoop Dogg’s facial features. After that, sketch out the neck in the shape of a cylinder. Draw the torso, which narrows slightly from the shoulders to the pelvis. Then add volume to the arms and legs with simple cylindrical shapes. Keep these forms relatively thin and let them narrow gradually toward the wrists and ankles. Sketch the feet as simple flattened forms.

Step 3: Sketch the bandana and baggy clothing
So it is time to outline the most basic details. Here we will use the two intersecting facial guidelines to sketch out Snoop’s facial features. After that, sketch out his famous hip-hop bandana. Move a little lower and sketch out the outlines of the loose hip-hop clothing. Make the hood noticeably wider than the head and let the jacket hang away from the slender torso. Draw the baggy pants much wider than the legs constructed in the previous step.

Step 4: Draw Calvin Broadus’s face
Draw Snoop Dogg’s eyes and eyebrows, which tilt slightly toward the nose. After that, draw the nose and lips. Starting with this step, use clear, dark lines. Carefully define the contours of the head, cheekbones, and jaw. Draw the ears and draw the thin beard. Draw Snoop’s bandana around the form of the head and add the braids behind it.

Step 5: Refine the hood and collar
Draw the final contours of Snoop’s neck area. Then carefully draw the contours of the hood and collar area. There are a lot of folds in the hood. Show its thickness around the neck and direct the main folds toward the shoulders. Mark a couple of lines to show the neck muscles.

Step 6: Draw the loose sleeves and hand
Draw the outlines of the loose jacket sleeves, taking into account all the necessary folds. Concentrate the folds around the elbows and cuffs, where the loose fabric bends and gathers. Next, draw the hand. First establish the palm at the end of the sleeve, then draw the visible fingers and knuckles. We cannot see Snoop Dogg’s other hand because of the angle.

Step 7: Draw the baggy pants and sneakers
The hip-hop pants should be wide but narrow slightly toward the feet. Pay attention to the folds in the fabric of the pants. Most of them are in the lower part of the pants and look like smooth diagonal and straight lines. Follow the rules of drawing drapery when creating the shapes and folds of the pants. Draw the sneakers as solid forms beneath the fabric. Draw the soles and laces.

Step 8: Add shadows to Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg is almost complete, but the drawing does not look quite realistic yet. To give the rapper’s figure more volume, let’s add some shadows. As in previous tutorials in this category, first determine the light source. After that, add shadows with dense hatching. Darken Snoop’s beard and mustache much more strongly than the surrounding skin, and place denser hatching beneath the chin, inside the hood, along the sleeves, and in the deeper folds near the lower parts of the baggy pants.

The main characteristic features of Snoop Dogg’s appearance are his fairly slim build combined with the loose-fitting clothing typical of this genre.
When drawing Snoop Dogg, it is also very important to accurately convey his facial features. We cover this in our portrait drawing tutorial, so be sure to study it if you have any difficulties during the process.
The bottom line is that all these tutorials are quite similar to each other, and the main differences are in details such as the face, proportions, and clothing.
For example, you can see this if you draw Snoop Dogg or follow our tutorial on drawing The Notorious B.I.G.
The most basic principles remain the same, so feel free to use the knowledge gained in this tutorial to draw any other character.
