How to Draw Chibi Scorpion

One of our favorite games is Mortal Kombat, and drawing tutorials about its characters appear on Drawingforall.net quite often. We have already drawn the most popular fighters from this game universe. And since we love the ninjas from Mortal Kombat, we decided to show you how to draw chibi Scorpion.

How to draw chibi Scorpion step by step

Step 1: Sketch Scorpion’s head and torso

To draw a chibi character, even a ninja like Scorpion, you need to use very simple techniques. Sketch the head and torso as a circle and an oval. Draw these shapes using very light lines. Make the head noticeably larger than the torso, because this exaggerated difference is one of the main features of a chibi character.

Step 2: Add the ninja’s limbs

This is another preparatory step. Draw Scorpion’s arms and legs using very light lines. As you can see, the chibi style is created by making the character’s head disproportionately large and the body small. Make the arms and legs short as well, so the entire figure has the characteristic compressed chibi appearance.

Step 3: Add Scorpion’s characteristic details

In the previous step, we outlined the basic figure of the ninja, and now we need to turn it into Scorpion. Draw the chibi eyes, outline Scorpion’s characteristic mask, and add the ninja clothing on the body. As in any chibi drawing, make the eyes noticeably larger than in the original character and simplify the smaller details of the costume.

Step 4: Refine Scorpion’s head and mask

Carefully trace Scorpion’s eyes, mask, and the rest of the head with clean, dark lines. The eyes occupy a larger part of the face than they would in a realistic figure. Draw the mask with simple contours and omit the smaller details that are not necessary in the chibi version.

Step 5: Trace the ninja’s body

Draw the clothing, arms, and legs with dark, clear lines. You can also trace your chibi Scorpion drawing with a marker or ink for a more comic-like appearance. Draw only the main folds of Scorpion’s clothing and omit minor anatomical details typical of a more realistic figure.

Step 6: Add shadows to Scorpion

Add shadows to the chibi Scorpion drawing using hatching as we did here, or use dark, contrasting shadow areas as in comics. Don’t cover the small figure with too many tonal transitions.

Mortal Kombat is one of the most famous fighting game series in the world. For more than three decades, we have been breaking our game controllers trying once again to defeat Motaro or Shao Kahn.

Although the games are famous for their brutality, we think chibi versions of the characters work surprisingly well.

With his large head and small simplified body, Scorpion looks much less threatening in chibi style, but his mask and classic ninja outfit still make him look like the original character from the Mortal Kombat series.

Next, you can draw chibi Sub-Zero in the same style and place the two classic Mortal Kombat rivals side by side. Use the same chibi construction for both characters, but change the mask and pose.
