How to Draw a Pig from Angry Birds

how to draw a pig from angry birds

This step-by-step guide will show you how to draw the pig from Angry Birds using a few simple circles and lines.

Angry Birds has a distinctive drawing style that applies to all characters, whether they are birds, pigs, or anything else, including the surrounding environment. Each creature appears as a round shape with facial features and characteristic details.

For example, we followed the same approach when drawing the red bird from Angry Birds, which is a simplified version of a cardinal.

The same principle will be used in this pig drawing lesson, but at the end we will add a few simple shadows to emphasize the volume in the drawing.

How to draw a pig from angry birds step by step

Step 1: Sketch the spherical head of the pig

Begin drawing the pig with the overall shape, that is, a large spherical form. Remember that you are depicting a three-dimensional figure, meaning the sphere is not just a flat circle. This understanding will help you create a more convincing character as you continue the drawing.

Step 2: Draw the guidelines of the Angry Birds pig

Draw the lines of facial symmetry on the face of the Angry Birds pig. The horizontal line will help you place the eyes, and the vertical line will help you find the vertical center of the face. Both of these lines should intersect roughly at the central point of the character’s face.

Step 3: Sketch the snout and eyes

Right in the center of the head, using the intersection from the previous step, draw the snout. Then on both sides of the snout sketch circles of a slightly smaller size, keeping them on the horizontal line at roughly the same distance from the center.

Step 4: Draw the Angry Birds pig ears and mouth

Below the snout, draw the pig’s mouth as a smoothly curved line. At the top of the head, draw the ears using two smooth lines. Place them slightly asymmetrically, shifted a little to the left or to the right.

Step 5: Clean the sketch and add the pup

Now take an eraser and carefully remove all the construction lines that were drawn in the previous initial steps. Draw black dots as pupils inside the eyes. Inside the outline of the snout, draw the nostrils as two ovals of the same shape.

Step 6: Draw details on the Angry Birds pig head

Below the snout, inside the mouth, draw the teeth using elongated oval shapes. In the ears, depict the inner contours as oval forms. Above the eyes, draw the eyebrows using slightly curved oval shapes.

Step 7: Draw shadows on the Angry Birds character

Shade the inner surface of the mouth, the nostrils, the eyebrows, and the inner contours of the ears. In the first step we mentioned that you should keep in mind that you are drawing a sphere. Remember this now and shade the lower part of the form, trying to convey the volume of the character.

Draw shadows on the Angry Birds character

The spherical form is one of the most basic geometric shapes used to establish the main volumes before adding details.

The ability to see form and volume, as well as space, is extremely important if you want to draw characters convincingly, even when they are game or cartoon creatures.

Understanding that this is not just a flat drawing but a volumetric figure allows the character to appear more three-dimensional.

For example, in our snowman drawing tutorial we showed how spheres, when placed correctly, can create a clear sense of volume in a drawing even when using very basic techniques.

And even if you intentionally draw a flat character, understanding volume is still very important.

For instance, when drawing Eric Cartman from South Park, you are essentially repeating the cardboard-like style used by the creators of the show.

At the same time, you keep in mind that you are depicting a person, even though it is stylized. A person still has form and volume, which is why the character feels convincing even with such simplified design.

When the character turns, the forms still rotate in space correctly, although in a simplified way.

The same principle works with video game characters, including the green pig from this lesson. Properly conveying the character’s volume allows the viewer to feel that the character exists in three-dimensional space rather than appearing flat and unconvincing.
