How to Draw Grapes

Finished pencil drawing of a grape cluster with a leaf and vine

In this detailed step-by-step tutorial, we’ll show you how to draw grapes using volumetric shadows and highlights.

How to draw grapes step by step

Step 1: Sketch the vine and grapes

First, outline the vine and a few grapes that are closest to us, in front of the rest. Note that the vine does not have to be perfectly straight.

Step 2: Outline the leaf shape

Outline the contours of the leaf and add a few more grapes.

Step 3: Add veins and grapes

Finish the leaf. Note that the leaf has jagged edges. Using simple lines, draw the veins on the leaf. Add a few more grapes as shown in our example.

Step 4: Finish the vine details

Finish the vine and add a tendril. Add more veins to the leaf. Draw several more grapes. Outline the shadows on the grapes.

Step 5: Complete the grape cluster

Draw the remaining grapes and outline the shadow shapes on them. Apply deep shadows in the areas between the grapes.

Step 6: Build the grape shadows

Start adding the shadows. First, we would like to remind you of the structure of a shadow.

Now work on the grapes. Find the light source; in our example, the light comes from the upper left. Apply the shadows in several stages using the outlines from the previous steps. Add halftones with light hatching. Then press the pencil a little harder to draw darker shadows. Do not forget to leave reflected light. Add some shadows to the vine.

Step 7: Finish the cast shadows

Continue adding the shadows. Draw the remaining shadows as shown in the example below. Do not forget the cast shadows.

  2. Pirmą kartą pamačiau pamoką, tikrai bandysiu piešti, kaip pavyks nežinau, bet esu labai susidomėjusi. Nuoširdus ačiū 🙂❤️👍
