How to Draw Huggy Wuggy

Huggy Wuggy has a very unusual appearance, and to depict him correctly, you need to know a few important techniques. In this step-by-step tutorial, we will show you how to draw Huggy Wuggy, convey his unusual appearance with his characteristic limb proportions, and correctly depict the texture of his fur.
At the end, as usual, we will show you how to create volume in a very simple way.
How to draw Huggy Wuggy step by step
Step 1: Sketch the head and torso
Start by indicating the main parts of the figure, namely the head and torso. They are approximately the same size. The head looks like an upside-down triangle, while the torso is shaped more like a trapezoid.

Step 2: Draw Huggy Wuggy’s long arms
Now move on to the limbs and draw the arms. They should be about twice as long as the torso. The arms should not have clearly defined elbows and should widen slightly toward the wrists.

Step 3: Sketch the mitten-like hands
At the ends of the arms, draw the hands. There is no need to detail these forms too much yet. Simply sketch them as mitten-like shapes, indicating the outlines of the fingers and thumbs.

Step 4: Draw Huggy Wuggy’s long legs
Huggy Wuggy’s legs are also very long and approximately equal in length to the arms. Here, too, the knees should not be clearly defined, and the forms should widen slightly toward the bottom.

Step 5: Block in Huggy Wuggy’s feet
At the bottom, indicate the feet, which somewhat resemble a monkey’s feet in their overall shape. Again, do not draw the individual details yet; simply indicate the overall mass of each foot.

Step 6: Draw the eyes and lips
Now move on to the details, starting with the head. First, draw the cartoon eyes and the pupils inside them as circles. Below, indicate the outlines of the lips as an elongated, curved oval shape with a line inside.

Step 7: Refine the head and bow
Using darker, clearer strokes, refine the outlines of the head and at the same time depict the fur texture. To do this, draw the fur with short strokes moving outward from the edges and following the head shape established in the first step. On the neck, draw the bow with dark lines.

Step 8: Add fur to the torso
Depict the fur on the torso in the same way. Use short strokes following the outline of the torso, which widens slightly around the abdomen. Do not draw the fur inside the outline yet; the texture along the edges is enough for now.

Step 9: Refine Huggy Wuggy’s furry arms
Now refine the arms in the same way, using short, light strokes along the outlines. You can make the fur slightly more noticeable where the arms meet the hands.

Step 10: Add fur to the legs
Finish drawing the fur texture by adding it to the legs. The fur strokes should not all be exactly the same length or point in exactly the same direction. Slight variations will make the texture look more authentic.

Step 11: Refine the hands and feet
Using smooth, clear, and clean lines, refine the outlines of the hands and feet. Use several clear lines to separate the fingers and toes.

Step 12: Add shadows and fur texture
Shade the pupils, leaving small highlights in their upper-right parts. Next, add a light shadow along the lower edges of the lips. After that, add an additional layer of fur texture around the edges of the head, as well as on the arms and legs.

Step 13: Finish the Huggy Wuggy drawing
Check your entire Huggy Wuggy drawing to make sure everything looks correct. Erase any remaining construction lines, and then refine the parts and details that need it.

Huggy Wuggy drawing principles and practice
We drew Huggy Wuggy in a standing pose with one arm raised. But this is only one of the poses you can depict. You can change the pose to any other one, since you now know the basics of drawing this character.
The most important thing is to remember his characteristic proportions, which we discussed in the steps, and how to create the fur texture.
By the way, we used a similar technique in our werewolf drawing tutorial and when drawing other similar characters. The same technique can be used to depict fur texture on animals and any other creatures.
The main thing to remember is that you first construct the outlines of the creature with light lines, then create the fur texture with darker strokes only along these outlines, gradually erasing the visible construction lines.
