How to Draw Asparagus

How to draw asparagus step by step

Step 1: Sketch the asparagus spear

First, just draw the contours of the asparagus stalk. Make the contour slightly uneven and asymmetrical. Keep the lines not only uneven but also very light. Consider the stalk as a long cylindrical form that gradually tapers toward the tip. Its slight bend should also continue through the entire volume of the asparagus spear.

Step 2: Draw the scales along the stalk

They look like small pointed shapes located along the stalk. Imagine that these scales are arranged around the cylindrical surface rather than lying on one flat side. The scales facing us are seen more fully, while those along the upper and lower edges turn with the form of the stalk. Notice that the scales become smaller and more closely spaced toward the tip. In this area, they also overlap one another more densely and form the characteristic pointed head of the asparagus spear.

Step 3: Refine the stalk and scales

In this step, just erase the extra guidelines. Also, as usual, carefully trace the lines to make them darker and cleaner. Refine the overlapping edges of the asparagus scales.
