How to Draw Eric Cartman

In this super easy drawing tutorial, the team of our website will show you how to draw Eric Cartman from South Park.
The stylistics and animations in this animated series are extremely interesting and recognizable. The characters seem to be cut out of cardboard and move in a special incomparable way.
In this lesson, we need to give the character a cardboard look using the tools that we have, that is, pencil and paper.
So let’s get down to the lesson and learn how to draw Eric Cartman from South Park in 11 really easy steps.
How to draw Eric Cartman step by step
Step 1: Sketch the basic oval for the cartoon head
First, draw Eric Cartman’s head as an oval. The head of the cartoon character should look large and wide. But before you start drawing, we would like to remind you that in the first steps you do not need to press too hard on the pencil, so that later you can easily erase all the guidelines.

Step 2: Add two facial guidelines
Draw a vertical line for facial symmetry and a horizontal line to draw the eyes correctly. These will divide the head into four equal parts. Make sure the lines are perpendicular and meet exactly in the middle of the face. Again, don’t use dark lines to make it easy to erase these guides later.

Step 3: Draw the outline of Cartman’s body
Sketch Cartman’s body below the head using a long, smooth line. It should look like a short, wide bag that’s slightly broader than the head. The South Park characters are make of very rough lines and shapes, so you don’t need to use too smooth outlines.

Step 4: Sketch the legs under the torso
Draw two short vertical lines on the sides, then connect them with a long horizontal line to indicate the bottom edge of the legs. Don’t worry if your lines aren’t perfectly straight – the simple style of South Park doesn’t require precision.

Step 5: Add the pom-pom and hat
The base is ready, and it’s time for details. Draw the pom-pom on the top of the head of Eric Cartman. After that, draw two perpendicular arc lines that start slightly above the line of the eyes to create the outline of the hat. This part should be symmetrical and reach approximately halfway between the eye line and the pom-pom.

Step 6: Draw Eric Cartman’s eyes
In South Park, the eyes are drawn with two ovals, as well as in many cartoons. At the very top, they should almost touch the line of the hat and touch each other along the vertical axis of symmetry. Slight asymmetry will make the Cartman drawing look more authentic.

Step 7: Sketch the cartoon pupils and mouth
This is probably the easiest step in this Eric Cartman drawing tutorial. Just draw the mouth with a curved line as in our example, placing it closer to the bottom edge of the face. Then, add the pupils as two simple dots inside the eye shapes from the previous step.

Step 8: Draw the lower face of Eric Cartman
Now, using a pair of two curved lines, sketch out Eric Cartman’s chin. First, make the chin below the most line with a short curved lien. Then add the second line, making it noticeably longer. Do not try to make these lines too smooth, because in South Part all these lines are deliberately made uneven.

Step 9: Sketch the small curved mittens
Well, we’re almost at the finish line. Draw Cartman’s mittens in the form of two small lumps on the sides of the torso. As you can see, the left and right hand are slightly different from each other. This is one of the most distinctive features of all South Park characters, so don’t try to make the left and right sides too symmetrical.

Step 10: Draw Eric Cartman’s shoes and zipper
To draw the shoes, first mark the bottom edge as a horizontal line, than add the top edges with a long wavy line. Next, use a smooth and wavy line to draw the zipper on the cartoon character jacket. These details should be kept as simple as possible.

Step 11: Erase guidelines and add buttons
Erase all unnecessary guidelines from the Eric Cartman drawing and sketch three buttons on the jacket. Strengthen the main lines of your drawing to make them clean, bold, and cartoony. You can trace over them with a pen or darker pencil to give the drawing an even more cartoonish appearance.

The characters of South Park have a very unique and recognizable appearance – rough, simple, and deliberately made to look as if they were cut out of cardboard.
In this lesson, we learned how to create this look using basic shapes and simple volumes.
