How to Draw a Sauce Bottle

There are a huge number of different sauces in the world that brighten up the food on our tables, and there are probably no fewer kinds of bottles. This step-by-step tutorial will show you how to draw a sauce bottle in its most characteristic and classic form.
The most important thing to remember is that the bottle is a cylinder, and all the details and elements should be subordinated to this form. The cap, logos, as well as the highlights and shadows, should all follow the form.
How to draw a sauce bottle step by step
Step 1: Sketch the bottle body
Sauce bottles come in different shapes, but we will draw a bottle with a common shape. Start by sketching the general outline of the sauce container. The bottle body is a tall cylinder with a narrower, slightly tapered neck above it. Make the neck about half the width of the body and slightly narrower at the top. Join its upper ends with a short line, and close the bottom of the bottle with a shallow downward curve.

Step 2: Sketch the cap and rim
At the very top of the sauce bottle, outline the bottle cap with a few very light lines. Its width should be slightly greater than the neck directly beneath it. Add a narrow cap rim below it with another shallow curve and short connecting lines at the sides. Remember that the cap and neck are cylindrical forms, so these curves should follow the volume of the bottle.

Step 3: Refine the bottle and labels
Now trace the contours of the sauce bottle with very dark lines. Then draw the outlines of the labels. Place a small circular neck label near the top of the bottle, just below the cap rim. On the main bottle body, draw a much larger front label with a broad arched top. Center both labels on the bottle. Erase any remaining stray sketch lines around the finished outline.

Step 4: Shade the sauce bottle
To give the sauce bottle a more three-dimensional appearance, add shadows using hatching. Also, don’t forget to draw the cast shadow. Apply short diagonal strokes along the right edge of the bottle cap, beneath its rim, and down the right side of the neck and shoulder. Leave the labels and most of the front unshaded. Add a few thin reflection lines along the left side of the bottle and a faint curved line just above the base.

The contents of a sauce bottle can vary just as much as the bottle itself. The bottle can have almost any appearance: narrow or wide, tall or short, more rounded or more angular.
The logos and lettering can also be completely different. So, as with any simple subject to draw, things are not quite as simple as they may seem.
To continue practicing, try drawing a sauce bottle of a different shape or from a different angle. Take any bottle, and it does not necessarily have to be a sauce bottle, and place it at different angles to the light.
Draw it while paying attention to how the shadows fall, and keep the steps from our tutorial in mind.
