How to Draw Chibi Zelda

Finished simplified Zelda drawing with a crown and long dress

In a previous tutorial, we showed you how to draw Link, the protagonist of this famous series of games. Here, we want to show how to draw Zelda, the character after whom the game is named.

Here, following tradition, we will use very simple shapes and lines, without complex shadows and details.

How to draw Zelda step by step

Step 1: Sketch Zelda’s head

Start by drawing Zelda’s head as a large circle. Add one vertical and one horizontal guideline inside the circle. These lines should cross near the center of the face and will help you place the facial features in the following steps.

Step 2: Outline Zelda’s body

Below the head, sketch the small torso and mark the position of both arms with simple curved lines. Then outline the long dress, making it gradually wider toward the bottom. The legs are hidden beneath the dress, so you do not need to draw them.

Step 3: Mark the head details

Use the guidelines to sketch Zelda’s large eyes on both sides of the vertical line. Add the pointed ears, the general shape of the hair, and the crown above the forehead. Keep all these lines light because they will be refined later.

Step 4: Refine Zelda’s face

Carefully outline Zelda’s eyes with clear, dark lines and add the pupils and upper eyelashes. Draw the thin eyebrows above the eyes, then add a small smiling mouth. Finish the face by marking the short decorative lines on both cheeks.

Step 5: Draw the crown

Outline the lower part of Zelda’s face and refine the contours of the hair around it. Draw the crown above the forehead. Then outline the pigtails and add several longitudinal bands across them.

Step 6: Refine the upper body

Draw the neck, shoulders, sleeves, and the upper part of Zelda’s dress with smooth, clean lines. Refine the arms and small hands in front of the body. Then outline the long strands of hair extending behind Zelda’s shoulders and back.

Step 7: Finish Zelda’s dress

Complete the lower part of Zelda’s body by outlining the long dress. Make the sides widen toward the bottom and draw the curved hem. Add the decorative lines and shapes on the front of the dress, then erase any remaining guidelines.
