How to Draw Marge Simpson

Finished Marge Simpson drawing with tall hair, dress, necklace, and shoes

The Simpsons has one of the most distinctive looks of any animated series. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to draw Marge Simpson just the way she appears in the cartoon.

How to draw Marge Simpson step by step

Step 1: Draw Marge’s eyes

As in our tutorial on drawing Maggie Simpson, begin with two large circular eyes. Place them close together, then draw Marge’s rounded nose beside the right eye. The first lines are similar for many characters from Springfield.

Step 2: Outline Marge’s tall hair

Outline Marge’s tall hairstyle with a long wavy line that rises above her head and curves down behind it. Add the ear as a small semicircle, then draw a few short lines inside it.

Step 3: Add the cartoon facial details

Draw the mouth with a line that forms a sharp corner. Add the lower lip, then continue the line downward to form the front of the neck. Draw the back of the neck with a straighter line. Add two black pupils inside the eyes and finish the face with Marge’s long eyelashes.

Step 4: Sketch the torso and arm

First, draw Marge’s necklace as a row of small circles around her neck. Use two curved lines to form the sides of the torso, then add the upper edge of her dress. Sketch the left arm with smooth lines, keeping it slightly bent at the elbow.

Step 5: Extend Marge’s long dress

Continue the sides of Marge’s dress downward with two long lines. Keep them nearly vertical, then connect them at the bottom with a short horizontal line. This finishes the lower edge of the dress.

Step 6: Finish the cartoon legs and shoes

Draw Marge’s lower legs as two short shapes that narrow slightly toward the ankles. Finish the drawing by adding her shoes with smooth toes and low heels.

Now Marge Simpson is complete. If you enjoyed drawing Marge, don’t stop here. Draw Homer Simpson next and you’ll have the series’ most famous couple together.
