How to Draw the Ultimate Green Goblin

In this tutorial, we will show you how to draw the Ultimate Green Goblin and recreate the character’s appearance from Ultimate Spider-Man.
This version differs greatly from the classic appearance and looks much more like a monster. Norman Osborn here is not wearing the traditional costume with large eyes.
Instead, he physically transforms into a gigantic creature with green skin. Rather than the characteristic tight purple suit with gloves and tall boots, this version of the Green Goblin wears a purple hooded cloak, making his appearance even more mysterious.
In this tutorial, we will show you how to draw one of the first appearances of the Ultimate Green Goblin exactly as readers originally saw him on the pages of the comic.
Green Goblin – is a supervillain in the Marvel universe, which often appears in the comics about Spider-Man and, by the way, is his sworn enemy. Usually, we draw comic heroes from the classic universe, for example Wolverine and Venom. But in this tutorial we will draw the character from the Ultimate universe. Let’s start the lesson and learn how to draw the ultimate Green Goblin.
How to draw the ultimate green goblin step by step
Step 1: Sketch the character’s basic framework
First of all, sketch the basic framework of the comic book villain using very simple and light lines. Your task at this stage is to indicate the placement of the body parts and the overall pose. Use an oval shape for the head and simple light lines for the spine, shoulder and pelvic girdles, as well as the limbs.

Step 2: Draw Ultimate Green Goblin’s hooded cloak
Now sketch the upper part of the cloak, namely the hood and the fabric covering the shoulders. The hood partially covers the head, and we will sketch the face later, so leave enough space for it. Also note that even though the hood is very loose, it still follows the shape of the head beneath it. The part covering the shoulders should flow in the wind, creating folds.

Step 3: Sketch the face, cloak, and body parts
Using light lines, sketch the outlines of the character’s face. Now indicate the broad contours of the cloak itself, also showing the movement of the wind. In addition, sketch the sharp fingers and feet. Use the previously created guidelines to avoid mistakes in proportion. The rear leg and part of the body are hidden in shadow, so do not render them in detail.

Step 4: Draw Ultimate Green Goblin’s facial features
Now begin drawing the Ultimate Green Goblin in greater detail, starting with the head. Carefully draw the eyes, nose, and mouth with sharp teeth. Add more folds to the hood and indicate the folds of skin on the face. Sketch the hair sticking out from beneath the hood.

Step 5: Refine the villain’s shoulder area
Trace the outlines of the upper part of the fabric covering the Green Goblin’s shoulders and draw the folds spreading across this part of the costume. These folds should create the impression of very strong wind movement.

Step 6: Refine Goblin’s arms and hands
Now move to the arms and trace their outlines, carefully drawing the fingers and sharp claws in detail. Add folds on the finger joints as well as the texture of the cloth wrapping around the wrists. Trace the contours of the cloak edges and add folds that also emphasize the movement of the wind in this area.

Step 7: Complete the lower body and cloak
In the same way, draw the folds on the lower outer part of the cloak if the Ultimate Green Goblin. Trace the outlines of the feet and draw the folds and fabric wrapping around this part of the legs. Do not add details to the inner part of the cloak, since it will be covered with dense shadows. Erase the construction lines and check your Green Goblin drawing for mistakes.

Step 8: Add shadows and finalize Green Goblin
First, create the outlines of the shadows in the darkest areas. Then fill them with solid black. To convey halftones and transitions between light and shadow, use hatching that gradually becomes lighter as it moves away from the dark areas toward the illuminated ones. These hard and contrasting shadows especially emphasize the comic book style of the drawing.

Drawing Ultimate Marvel characters
The appearance of the Ultimate Green Goblin differs greatly from the classic version recognized by almost everyone, which was originally created back in the 1960s.
In this tutorial, we managed to recreate this interpretation using several simple steps based on comic book drawing principles.
We were able to convey the characteristic forms and massive build of the character, which also strongly separates him from the classic version.
This is the way the character appeared in his earliest appearances. Later, his design received slightly different costume elements, and the hooded cloak disappeared.
Using the same techniques from this tutorial, you can now recreate any other version of this character by adding or removing certain details.
We used a similarly massive body structure in our Venom drawing tutorial. If you want to draw the Green Goblin in his classic appearance, we also have a separate tutorial for that.
In comic books, characters are rarely shown completely isolated. More often, they appear in scenes, battles, or larger story compositions.
Because of this, it is important to practice not only drawing characters on a blank page, but also placing them inside more complex scenes.
For example, you can draw Spider-Man fighting the Green Goblin while keeping both characters in the Ultimate style.
You can also create more unusual combinations, drawing Wolverine in the same scene with the Green Goblin, or invent any other story-driven composition you want.
