How to Draw a Minigun

Completed minigun drawing with multiple barrels, handle, rear sight, and clean outlines.

This step-by-step tutorial will show you how to draw a minigun by outlining its main elements with simple lines.

As with drawing other similar objects, this tutorial can be useful for creating interesting comic book scenes or designing cool game characters, such as Serious Sam.

How to draw a minigun step by step

Step 1: Sketch the minigun outline

First, sketch the general outline of the minigun using light lines. Draw the long rectangular shape of the barrel section and then indicate the larger angular shape of the body at the rear. At this stage, do not add small details or try to make the contours final.

Step 2: Draw the barrel guides

Divide the elongated rectangle with three horizontal lines. After that, draw four short vertical lines. These lines form the minigun barrels. Check your drawing again because the barrels should be straight and parallel to each other.

Step 3: Refine the minigun barrels

Start detailing the front part of the minigun. Using the construction from the previous steps, trace the barrels with darker and cleaner lines. Refine the front ends of the barrels and the elements that connect them together. Then erase the unnecessary guidelines that were used to construct this part of the drawing.

Step 4: Refine the handle and sight

Now move to the rear part of the minigun and refine the remaining details. Trace the contours of the body and handle with clean, darker lines, gradually erasing the construction lines underneath. Then refine the smaller angular elements shown in our example. Finally, erase all remaining unnecessary lines and check the entire drawing.

Now that you know how to draw a minigun, you can create your own scene with a cool character holding it. You can find similar scenes and illustrations in many games, comics, and movies.

You can make the scene even more interesting by drawing a shotgun in the character’s other hand, similar to the classic image of Serious Sam.

Or you can create a classic RPG-style inventory, as in the early Fallout games, by drawing other items next to the minigun.

By the way, if you want to draw a Vault Dweller, we have a separate detailed tutorial on this subject.
