How to Draw a T-34 Tank

If you enjoy games set during the World War 2, you have probably seen this armored vehicle many times. Here you will learn how to draw a T-34 tank, the most famous Soviet tank of the Second World War.

How to draw a T-34 tank step by step

Step 1: Draw the turret

Start drawing with the turret and barrel. We usually begin with a stick figure, but here we are not drawing a person, so we will depict the tank from top to bottom, piece by piece. Begin with the top of the tank. Draw the turret as an oval and sketch the barrel with two parallel lines.

Step 2: Outline the tank body

Using the turret as a reference, sketch the upper hull directly beneath it. Add the large outlines of the tracks, keeping both sides the same height. Mark only the overall shape of the chassis at this stage and avoid drawing small details yet. Continue using light strokes, since many of these lines will serve only as construction guides.

Step 3: Add turret details

Round the sides of the turret by using smooth curved lines. Draw the hatch on top and add the visible panel lines that define the shape of the turret. As the construction becomes clearer, erase the guidelines that are no longer needed. Leave only the contours that belong to the final structure of the T-34.

Step 4: Refine the gun barrel

Erase the extra guidelines from the tank turret. Refine the barrel of the T-34 tank and add a few more details, such as the handle on the side of the turret and the opening next to the barrel.

Step 5: Draw the armor plates

Outline the armor plates, or fenders, that cover the chassis. Note that all the lines in this stage should be straight. At the front of the tracks, draw small rectangular shapes resembling parallelograms, which form where the fenders bend slightly downward.

Step 6: Add the front details

Draw the machine gun on the left side of the front armor and the headlamp on the right. Then add the square hatch and the horizontal bar below it. Although these parts are small, they help define the front of the T-34. Place them carefully.

Step 7: Outline the road wheels

Begin adding the road wheels inside the tracks. The outer wheels are noticeably smaller than the main ones. Once all the wheels are in place, refine the remaining contours of the hull and tracks. Erase the last construction lines so this part of the drawing begins to look clean and finished.

Step 8: Detail the tank tracks

Draw the inner circles of the road wheels and add the texture to the outer surface of the tracks. Repeat the pattern carefully so the links remain consistent along both sides of the tank. At the same time, check that all mechanical parts line up correctly and adjust any uneven contours before moving on to shading.

Step 9: Add shadows and hatching

Shade the areas underneath the turret, around the wheels, and beneath the armor plates first, since these are the darkest parts of the tank. Fill the deepest shadows with solid black and use regular hatching for the lighter areas. Keep the direction of the hatching consistent across the drawing so the metal surfaces appear more solid and three-dimensional.
