How to Draw Red Bird from Angry Birds

Using this lesson, you will learn how to draw the red bird from Angry Birds, once one of the most popular mobile games in the world.

The characters from this game have a very distinctive appearance, essentially consisting of a large head, bold facial features, and feathers of various shapes and sizes. In addition, each bird is colored differently and may have its own unique traits.

In this lesson, we will show you how to draw the red bird from the legendary game Angry Birds. As always, by applying the same principles demonstrated here, you will be able to draw any of the other birds as well.

The key is to remember that all the Angry Birds characters are based on simplified shapes and smooth, clean lines.

How to draw Red Bird from Angry Birds step by step

Step 1: Sketch the main round form

As we mentioned at the very beginning, any of the Angry Birds characters is essentially built around a large circular shape, which you should sketch in this first step. We used the same principle in our drawing lesson on Eric Cartman, starting with a round form and then constructing the rest of the drawing around it.

Step 2: Add the symmetry guidelines

To draw the Angry Birds character’s face accurately and without mistakes, use the same principle applied when drawing a human face – mark the lines of symmetry. The horizontal and vertical lines should intersect exactly at the center of the bird’s face. As you draw these guidelines, remember that they are placed on a round form, so they should follow and emphasize its curvature rather than appear completely flat.

Step 3: Draw the beak of the Red Bird

Starting right at the intersection of the two guidelines, begin drawing the beak of the red bird from Angry Birds. First, sketch the upper part of the beak with the tip angled slightly downward. Then, directly beneath it, draw the lower part of the beak using a pair of smooth lines. Try to convey the character’s expression as accurately as possible through the shape of the beak.

Step 4: Sketch the cartoon eyes and pupils

Now, on the horizontal guideline, draw two round eyes on the left and right sides of the vertical line. Inside these shapes, add the pupils of the red bird from Angry Birds using two smaller circles. By adjusting the position of the pupils within the eyes, you can change the direction of the character’s gaze.

Step 5: Draw the eyebrows of the Red Bird

Using the facial symmetry guidelines, draw the angry, furrowed eyebrows of the red bird from Angry Birds. The eyebrows should partially overlap the upper parts of the eyes. Then add the eyelids with a pair of smooth lines on each eye, creating the impression that the bird is slightly squinting.

Step 6: Clean up the facial details

Now carefully erase the facial symmetry guidelines that you drew in the second step. Then fill in the eyebrows with solid black. After that, remove any unnecessary outlines around the eyes and fill in the pupils with black as well. Finally, carefully trace the eyes, eyebrows, and beak to give them a clean, finished look.

Step 7: Draw the feathers of the Red Bird

At the top of the head, draw the feathers as two smooth, elongated shapes. In the back, sketch the tail of the red bird from Angry Birds using a couple of angular outlines. As mentioned earlier, each bird in the game has slightly different feather shapes and textures, so you can experiment here and adjust the form to give this character a slightly different look.

Step 8: Erase remaining construction lines

Now completely erase any remaining construction lines from your Angry Bird drawing, leaving only the final contours. After that, trace the entire drawing with a thicker, clearer outline to give it a cartoon look. At this point, you can either leave the drawing as it is or color it in the character’s signature colors.

Erase remaining construction lines

At one time, Angry Birds caused a worldwide sensation, becoming one of the most popular and best-selling games on the planet and significantly advancing mobile gaming.

In this drawing lesson, we aimed to reproduce the famous red bird – the most recognizable character from the game – as accurately as possible.

If you were able to follow the steps and draw this bird just like in our example, it is a great time to try depicting the other characters from the game.

They are all constructed in a similar way; the main differences lie in their feather shapes, textures, and color schemes.

This style is widely used in games and animation, where artists deliberately simplify characters, giving them distinctive features or making them unlike real representatives of nature.

Yet, thanks to elements such as the beak and feathers, we clearly understand that it is not just a circle, but a bird. Use this approach as inspiration and try creating your own characters.

It is a very useful technique, especially if you plan to design original characters for games or animated projects in the future.

And this style certainly differs greatly, for example, from drawing a bird in a realistic manner, where you aim to reproduce the animal as accurately as you see it in front of you.

Stylized and realistic approaches are equally important for any artist, as they represent different aspects of skill and understanding. Keep this in mind and try to develop your abilities in both directions.
