Finished Amy Wong drawing with her distinctive hairstyle, hoodie, and boots.

The characters from Futurama have a very interesting appearance, both in terms of drawing style and their elements and details. Here we will show you how to draw Amy Wong, one of the central characters of the legendary animated series Futurama.

We used a very simple line drawing style without adding shadows or colors, which you can do yourself after completing the steps.

How to draw Amy Wong step by step

Step 1: Sketch the head and torso

First of all, sketch a round head and outline the neck, chest, waist, and pelvis. Note that all these parts are drawn using very simple geometric shapes.

Step 2: Add the arms and legs

Sketch the limbs as very simple elongated forms connected to the torso. Mark the hands and feet as circles and ovals. Don’t forget that the construction lines should be very light.

Step 3: Draw Amy Wong’s eyes

Using clear, dark lines, carefully draw the almond-shaped eyes. In the same step, add the pupils and eyelashes. Try to make the contours smooth and the eyes symmetrical.

Step 4: Add the smiling mouth

Here we need to draw a smiling mouth with a visible row of teeth. Use a curved line for the smile and a simpler line inside it to separate the teeth from the rest of the mouth.

Step 5: Draw the characteristic hairstyle

Using long, dark lines, draw our character’s unusual hairstyle. Follow the overall shape of the hair. Don’t draw too many individual strands. In the same step, draw the visible ear.

Step 6: Outline the neck and hood

This is a fairly simple step in which we need to draw the neck and the hood resting on the shoulders. Use smooth, slightly curved lines.

Step 7: Draw the torso, sleeves, and hands

Move a little lower and carefully refine the shape of the torso and sleeves. In the same step, draw the arms and clenched fists. Make the outlines very simple.

Step 8: Refine the hips and legs

Using smooth, clear lines, draw the contours of the hips and legs, as shown in our example. Keep the outlines simple and continuous, without adding unnecessary anatomical details.

Step 9: Finish the legs and boots

In the final step, draw the lower parts of the legs and the rather massive boots. Make the boots wider than the ankles. And don’t forget to erase all unnecessary construction lines.

Different cartoon drawing styles involve certain stylistic techniques, many of which often come directly from the artist’s own style.

For example, the team of artists behind The Simpsons largely carried over their characteristic drawing style to the Futurama series.

Even someone who is not very familiar with these cartoons will most likely recognize, when seeing characters from both series, that they were created by the same team.

If you know the main stylistic techniques used by the animators, drawing each subsequent character will be much easier for you.
