How to Draw a Cartoon Cow

How to draw cartoon cow step by step

Step 1: Sketch the simplified cow torso

First, sketch the main outlines of the body using large volumes, starting with the torso and the head. Draw the torso as a wide, large oval geometric shape placed horizontally.

Step 2: Sketch the cartoon head circle

Next, sketch the head attached to this oval and slightly overlapping it, using a large circle. One of the distinctive characteristics of cartoon style is exaggerated proportions, so you can draw the head larger than it would be on a real cow in relation to the body.

Step 3: Sketch the simplified head details

With the head and torso established, begin adding details while still using large forms. Start with the head by sketching the ears and an oval-shaped muzzle. Between them, draw large, rounded cartoon eyes.

Step 4: Draw the cartoon cow legs and tail

Now, in the lower part of the body, sketch the cow’s legs, clearly indicating the knee joints and the outlines of the hooves. At the back of the body, add the tail using a pair of light curved lines. Even while working with general construction lines and volumes, try to maintain symmetry.

Step 5: Add the cartoon horns and hair

Step 7: Trace the horns and ears

In the same way, outline the contours of the face, ears, horns, and hair using dark, clear lines. Check the symmetry of the head and its features.

Step 8: Draw the cartoon cow neck folds

Outline the visible parts of the cow’s neck and add a few folds in this area. Here you can also include additional details, such as facial patterns or other elements, to give the drawing more uniqueness.

Step 9: Outline the front legs and hooves

Carefully outline the cartoon cow’s front legs, refining the wide knees and hooves. Separate the hooves, give them a finished look, and make sure both legs have matching size and shape.

Step 10: Outline the cartoon cow hind legs

Now do the same with the hind legs, carefully outlining and refining their contours and knees. Draw the hooves of the cartoon cow in detail and check the symmetry both between the two hind legs and in comparison with the front legs. Finally, outline the tail and add a tuft at the end
