How to Draw a Long Sword

Welcome to DrawingForAll, dear readers! In this drawing tutorial we will show you how to draw a long sword. The long sword has an average length of 90cm, it is longer than short sword and shorter than greatsword.
During the long years of the Middle Ages, people invented many varieties of long swords, and of course, using this article, you can depict absolutely any kind of long swords.

 

Step 1

We start with a single straight line. This line will make our sword as even and proportional as possible.

At the very end of the line draw a circle as a guide for a pommel, which of course can be not only round, but also of any other shape.

Proceed to the grip of the sword. Draw the grip using in a shape of a cylinder. The grip can be made slightly convex in the middle.

At the end of the grip draw the guard that can be straight or slightly curved as in our example. Gard can also be more sophisticated form.

Step 5

Draw the blade. The blade should be slightly wider than the handle and slowly taper closer to the tip.

Erase the guideline that we have drawn in the first step and draw the fuller in the center of the blade.

  1. Well it was tricky but we got there in the end! (I kinda just drew my own one) but it was good because even though I drew my own sword it looked a lot like this one and if I knew how I would even send a picture of it!

  2. Thanks for the great tutorial but i believe that’s not a longsword its an arming sword.
